2nd SH Online Careers Fair Kicks Off
For a common future“Shanghai Online Careers Fair” builds a two-way selection platform for employers in SH and young talents abroad
The Shanghai Online Career Fair of Engineering Technology Talent from World-class Universities, as a vital platform for Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality (STCSM) (Shanghai Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs) (SAFEA) to introduce overseas talented people, has become an important channel to attract high-caliber personnel, especially the young talent in science and technology.
On September 21, 2022, the 2nd Shanghai Online Career Fair of Engineering Technology Talent from World-class Universities kicked off in Shanghai and London online. Overseas talented people from Imperial College of Technology, King's College London, Queen Mary University of London, University College London, London School of Economics and Political Science, and University of Chicago, as well as major employers from Shanghai attended the event. This move is to implement the new vision, strategies and measures of President Xi Jinping about talent work in the new era, and the guiding principles of talent work in Shanghai and the central government. On that day, personal information views reached 22,551, and the event will last until September 30.
Nearly 2,000 professionals in the four fields such as science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) from the six world-class universities applied for jobs,
and more than 60 Shanghai-based universities, research institutes, new-type R&D institutions, and famous enterprises and public institutions offered about 500 jobs at their “online booths”. Employers and job seekers held video conversations and communicated on the job requirements. Up to now, 4,298 contacts have been held.
Through cooperation with top-notch universities, this event will serve as a two-way selection platform for Shanghai-based employers and overseas professionals, and provide intellectual support for the construction of Shanghai Technology Innovation Center and the High-caliber Talent Center. It also sends a strong message that Shanghai will be more open to assemble the best minds across the land and draw fully on their expertise through more platforms and more effective measures.
As stressed by Huang Hong, Vice Director of the STCSM and Deputy Head of the SAFEA, at the kick-off event, “we will strive to provide the best research platforms for overseas professionals, and make Shanghai a sought-after destination of global talent and a talent center in the world innovation network, building Shanghai into an ideal land for the best minds to pursue their dreams.”
On September 15, the work arrangement meeting was held for smooth progress of the event. Huang Hong delivered a pep talk. Jason Yarrow, Director of Career Center from Imperial College of Technology, and Xiao Lei, Vice Director of Liaison Office of the STCSM to the UK, made speeches. Comrades from Foreign Expert Service Section of the STCSM introduced the agenda. The meeting was chaired by He Jun, Director of Shanghai Administrative Center of Shanghai R&D Public Service Platforms, and attended by people from relevant research institutes, universities, hospitals, and major enterprises and public institutions.
