Four industrial parks in Pudong New Area were recently selected among the third batch of 13 Shanghai’s municipal-level characteristic industrial parks. 

The four parks include the Shanghai Jingu Intelligent Terminal Manufacturing Base, the Zhangjiang (Metaverse) Digital Chain Industrial Base, a green food industrial park, and Source of Power Industrial Park, which focus on "new tracks" including the digital economy, green and low-carbon industries, the metaverse, and intelligent terminals.

So far, Pudong has been approved for 15 municipal-level characteristic industrial parks, accounting for more than one-quarter of the total 53 characteristic industrial parks in the city, and one private economic headquarters cluster.

Pudong’s achievements in promoting the construction of characteristic industrial parks and its role in pioneering high-quality industrial development are becoming increasingly prominent.

In the future, Pudong will focus on indicators such as industry leadership, leading company clusters, spatial support and increasing incubation and cultivation efforts to create large-scale industrial clusters and a stronger park economy with more characteristics.

For example, the Shanghai Jingu Intelligent Terminal Manufacturing Base will form an overall development pattern of "1+1+2". The core area of the base is located in the southern area of the Jinqiao Development Zone. It has since connected to the zone's northern area and expanded to include other towns.

Statistics indicate that the southern area of the zone has prominent industrial advantages as it has formed a mid-to-high-end industrial structure featuring intelligent connected vehicles, intelligent robots, intelligent equipment terminals, and smart home appliances, and has also gathered a number of key enterprises in various fields.

The southern area is home to many intelligent connected vehicle companies. Among them, Valeo, Faurecia, Lear Automobile, Jiaoyun Automobile and other original international manufacturers are focusing on the integration of production and research.

WM Motor, AUTO X, Huawei Smart Car Solutions BU, Xiaomi's car business, Ali Zebra Zhixing, Dharma Academ's logistics robot business, and Didi's driverless car business are expected to help promote the development of the intelligent connected vehicle industry in the southern area. 

There are open test roads being built, and Jinqiao Intelligent Connected Vehicle Co Ltd is dedicated to providing road testing services for various car companies.

The Jinqiao Robot Industrial Park, which covers an area of nearly 66.67 hectares, is also under construction in the area.

The southern area plans to attract a group of intelligent terminal companies to build a first-class demonstration area for the intelligent terminal industry in China. It will expand the intelligent connected vehicle test roads to surrounding areas and introduce a number of leading enterprises in the industry.

The Zhangjiang (Metaverse) Digital Chain Industry Base is located in Zhangjiang Science City. Centered on the five links of the metaverse including linking, interaction, computing, tools and ecology, the base has formed a complete industrial chain with seven major industrial clusters of integrated circuits, the mobile internet, artificial intelligence, financial technology, digital culture, intelligent manufacturing, and information security, as well as a large number of leading enterprises represented by Qualcomm, Xilinx, Texas Instruments, Zhiwei Robot, Qiniu Cloud, and Vision Information.

In the next step, the base will leverage Zhangjiang Science City’s resources including functional platforms and industrial parks such as Shanghai Data Exchange, Zhangjiang Artificial Intelligence Island and Zhangjiang Online to focus on metaverse technology research and development, data services, digital creativity, and applications.

The base aims to become a hub for metaverse technological innovation and industrial development with international influence by cultivating enterprises, building scientific innovation platforms, recruiting talents, deploying a new digital infrastructure, and creating a new open ecosystem.

The new green food industrial park has gathered Shanghai Qingmei Green Food (Group) Co Ltd and other representative enterprises, and has formed a complete set of industrial chain models covering research and development, food breeding, food processing, food cold chain logistics and sales. Its food industry also covers rice and flour products, soy products, fresh agricultural products, and central kitchen catering services.

By providing an information-based and industrialized food consumption experience for the modern green food market, the industrial park has become a pioneer among industrial parks within the modern green food industry.

Source of Power Industrial Park, an equipment manufacturing industrial park with a planned area of 8 square kilometers, is located in the core area for cutting-edge industries in the Lin-gang Special Area of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone.

Relying on superb locational advantages, combined with the opening-up policies and the major expansion of high-end equipment industry development in the Lin-gang Special Area, the park will focus on key links of the industrial chain, accelerate the development and industrialization of core equipment, develop high value-added links such as R&D, design, and manufacturing, and integrate services for key components and complete sets of high-end power equipment and complete sets of equipment.

In order to become a characteristic park with strong innovation capacity, a complete industrial chain, and rich functional formats, it will also design an overall layout for the power equipment industry and bring together leading power equipment companies. This will help transform Shanghai into a global power city.
