Pudong New Area in Shanghai has developed into a gathering place for elite global talents over the past 30 years due to the district’s ideal living and working environment and favorable policies for attracting professionals, according to local media reports.

Statistics show that at the end of 2019, Pudong had attracted about 1.45 million talents, including 90 academicians from home and abroad. As a result of this influx of talents, Pudong has become the country’s leading innovative area for attracting professionals.

Over the years, Pudong has rolled out various favorable policies to establish a globally competitive talent system. It has also accomplished many “firsts” within the country.

In 2017, Pudong set up the country’s first "overseas talent bureau" to provide overseas talents with work permits, identity cognizance and other supporting services.

Pudong also launched permanent residence permits for high-profile foreign workers and work permits for foreigners working in China, along with services for financial professionals.

A one-stop service platform for foreigners to apply for work permits was launched in Pudong last year.

Impressed by the ideal living and working environment and supportive policies from the local government, more and more talents from home and abroad are choosing to work and live in Pudong.

In recent years, Pudong has beefed up efforts to build public facilities covering education, medical care, housing, culture and sports, striving to create an international and favorable living environment for overseas talents.
