Shanghai’s first 5G talent base unveiled in Pudong

Pudong, Shanghai plans to strengthen efforts to cultivate more high-level 5G talent, according to a statement at the unveiling ceremony for a 5G talent base held in Pudong’s Jinqiao Economic and Technological Development Zone in the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone on Sept 15.
The base, the first of its kind in Shanghai, is expected to promote the integrated development of industry and education and bring more professionals into its talent pool.
Jinqiao is currently home to about 50,000 5G talents, and the base is expected to help Jinqiao establish a professional platform to foster 5G professionals in an effort to promote the development of core industries related to 5G, such as Future Cars, intelligent manufacturing, and data harbor.
The base, which is equipped with 5G technology, will consist of three branches in Jinqiao, which will enhance coordination among enterprises in the zone and offer vocational training services. In addition, the 5G base is expected to cooperate with colleges and universities to foster innovative 5G talent.
Local authorities have said that the base will focus on vocational training and brand building and offer a variety of classes for enterprises in the zone. Internship bases for employment and entrepreneurship will also be established to help the zone integrate vocational training with industrial development.
The base currently houses a digital vocational training platform and the Shanghai Digital Intelligent Technology and Vocational Skills Development Institute and aims to accelerate 5G applications and vocational training. Qualified enterprises will be encouraged to apply for vocational qualification certificates.
In addition, a total of three 5G enterprises were approved as internship bases for employment and entrepreneurship at the unveiling ceremony, and a talent service platform was established at the center. Both are expected to offer one-stop and full-cycle business services for professionals.
According to authorities, the 5G talent base will adhere to national development strategies, especially in infrastructure development, and put its focus on the research and development of 5G technology. More specific plans for talent training will be rolled out as well, in an effort to boost the development of new technologies in the 5G industry, as well as to improve the environment for 5G industrial services.
Jinqiao is home to Shanghai's first 5G industrial park for 5G commercialization and houses the 5G innovation centers of Huawei and China Mobile’s Shanghai branch, as well as an open lab of the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology. The park is expected to boost the development of superfast technology and intelligent manufacturing.
The establishment of the 5G talent base in Jinqiao is expected to greatly improve Jinqiao’s industrial ecology and inject new impetus into the zone’s 5G industry. The talent base will also advance Pudong’s development strategies in its six core industries, and a comprehensive 5G industrial base is expected to form in the area.
